This section outlines the major events of the WYD08 week. We encourage you to register now to get the full experience of WYD08, as registered pilgrims will have priority access to all events. We expect many events to be popular, so you will be guaranteed your entry if you register. Major events of the week and the venues include:

4.30pm Tuesday 15 July, Opening Mass

Celebrated by Cardinal George Pell and the Bishops of the world at Barangaroo (east Darling Harbour). Pilgrims have priority access to Barangaroo, with general public able to watch it on the big screen at the Domain, Darling Harbour and Sydney Opera House forecourt once Barangaroo is full. 2.45pm Thursday 17 July, Papal Arrival

Welcome and arrival of Pope Benedict XVI on Sydney Harbour, followed by a Papal welcome at Barangaroo at 3.30pm. From 4.30pm, the Pope will travel through the streets of Sydney via motorcade in the Pope Mobile. Click here for more infomation and maps.

3pm Friday 18 July, Stations of the Cross

One of the highlights of WYD08, this live theatrical and devotional re-enactment of the last days of Jesus' life takes place in Sydney's spectacular harbour backdrop. Locations include St Mary's Cathedral, the Art Gallery, the Domain, Sydney Opera House forecourt, Darling Harbour and Barangaroo. Click here for more information and maps.

7pm Saturday 19 July, Evening Vigil

The Evening Vigil with the Pope at Southern Cross Precinct (Randwick Racecourse & Centennial Park), will be a joyful and moving event, including a ceremony of candlelight and a representation of the ten WYD08 patrons. Click here for more information and maps.

10am Sunday 20 July, Final Mass

Today is World Youth Day! Pope Benedict will preside over this high point of celebration for what promises to be the largest gathering of people in the history of Australia at Southern Cross Precinct (Randwick Racecourse & Centennial Park. The Pope will fly over the precinct in a helicopter from 9am and then drive through the precinct in the Pope-mobile. Click here for more information and maps.
